The Lyric Game Returns

Yeay! Though my first one is still on-going (and you are welcome to try it) I thought I'd start a new one as well. The rules are:

  • Step 1: Put your media player on random.
  • Step 2: Pick your favorite lines from the first 25 songs that play.
  • Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song the lines come from.
  • Step 4: Cross out the songs when someone guesses correctly.

I changed this a bit though as I only picked 4 or 5 star rated songs from my library which probably represents about 10% top. Still it means I know the song more :). No Googling or any other lyric lookup either.

  1. ...and there's something familiar about every word you say. It's hard to believe it's happening again.
  2. Superstar DJs. Here we go. (Hey Boy Hey Girl by Chemical Brothers; [info]avizandum)
  3. But looking back in retrospect did you ever really get what you'd expect? Trying to rectify got lost a little further.
  4. Meteor rise from obscurity; all it took was a killing spree; and the whole world was lying at your feet.
  5. Fire. (Hint: That's the only lyrics in the song).
  6. Lying here on the floor where you left me; I think I took too much. I'm crying here, what have you done? I thought it would be fun. (Just Like a Pill by Pink; puresunrays)
  7. You see my all spilling; it's on the floor 12 stories high. As I watch, you wreck yourself, and it's over nothing.
  8. Sometimes; tell me while she's touching you. Just by mistake; accidentally do you say my name?
  9. I've seen too much, I haven't seen enough, you haven't seen enough, I'll laugh until my head comes off.
  10. Let there be cuckoos, a lark and a dove; but first of all, please... (Let There Be Love by Westlife; Baby Peaches)
  11. I am; a little bit insecure a little unconfident cause you don't understand I do what I can but sometimes I don't make sense.
  12. You should be sleeping my lover. Tell me what you're dreaming of. (Hammering In My Head by Garbage; [info]21reasons
  13. Just go with the magic baby; I can see it there in your eyes.
  14. But I can't help it if I'm just a fool. Always having my heart set on you. (Fool by Shakira; [info]grahamrobinson)
  15. See children drugs are bad; and if you don't believe me ask your dad; and if you don't believe him ask your mum; she'll tell you how she does them all the time. (The Kids/Criminal II by Eminem; [info]avizandum)
  16. I don't want emotional hassle; I just want another bite of the apple. Dark thoughts need satisfaction. We're gonna crash; let's make it happen.
  17. I've asked myself how much do you; commit yourself?
  18. So then love walked up to like and said; I know that you don’t like me much let’s go for a ride
  19. Now that I'm Miss Thing. Now that I'm a zillionaire. You scan the credits for your name and wonder why it's not there. (Right Through You by Alanis Morissette; [info]cangetmad and [info]21reasons)
  20. Shut up! So what; what does it matter now? I was swimming in the haze; now I crawl on the ground and everything I never liked about you is kind of seeping into me.
  21. I know it would be outrageous; to come on all courageous; and offer you my hand. To pull you up on to dry land; when all I got is sinking sand.
  22. And maybe; I'll find out, the way to make it back someday. To watch you, to guide you, through the darkest of your days.
  23. All day and night I creep out; I think about who I'm gonna go and link up. Don't think that i'm innocent, baby.
  24. Don't throw yourself like that; in front of me. I kissed your mouth, your back; is that all you need?
  25. And if I only could; I'd make a deal with God; and I'd get him to swap our places. (Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush; [info]avizandum)

They aren't always my favourite lines as they sometimes included the song title. I excluded one song on account of the fact as it appeared on the same album as another song. I excluded another song because it was on the last one I did.

8. Sounds a bit like the Alanis Morrisette number, but there ain't enough swear words, so maybe not...
10. ...Let there be love. Probably done by every lounge singer from Frank Sinatra to Harry Cornick Jr.
14. Shakira. Fool.

8 isn't an Alanis Morrisette song :D. Though I understand what angle you are taking on that. 10 is Let There Be Love I'm going to go with the cover that I have for an artist though :). Quite right about Shakira.

However, 19 is Alanis Morrisette, isn't it? But I'm crap at her song titles.

And 16 sounds like The Streets, for some reason.

Thanks for making me chuckle. If only it was such a respected artist like The Streets :).

I'm sure it's just one superstar dj, but the first is the Chemical Brothers: Hey Boy, Hey Girl.

And the last one is Rnuning Up That Hill. Whether you admit to Kate Bush, or say thatit's Faith and the Muse's superior cover version, is up to you.

Umm... I'm just ignoring the ones that would be seen as embarassingly girly by a girly girl with three X chromosomes whose hobbies were makeup and nice boys: all the ones involving crying on shoulders and dreaming.

15 is Eminem, "The Kids", and is an entirely acceptable song, which doesn't make up for the presence of at least 2 songs by Natalie Merchant, which I won't even dignify by going any further...

Nah there are two DJs. I checked :D.

Running Up That Hill is right as is The Kids by Eminem. Natalie Merchant; she rules. If you know the songs or at least which they are (which you obviously do) then you might as well say so that we can score them off. There actually isn't that many female artist in the list given the general balance of my music collection.

19 is Right Through You, 12 is Garbage, off Version 2.0, probably Hammering in my Head. I either know number 9 or I know of a song with similar lyrics.

Nicely done. You might well know 9. It's by a well known band that got more abstract as time went by.
